⚠️ Why waiting for more experience is killing your career ⚠️ Just got off the phone with an IT guy who really wanted to move to DevOps… Except he felt it wasn't the right time for him because he “only” has 3 years of experience. The problem with that logic? 👉🏼 First of all, even 10 more years in his position (mid-tech, on prem) won't help him, because when it comes to DevOps everything is in the Cloud. In reality, someone with 2 years of experience in Cloud IT would be a more relevant candidate. 👉🏼 Second, technology is evolving at lightning speed, which means the longer he stays where he is, the harder it will be for him to close that ever-growing gap. 👉🏼 And lastly… ...The harsh truth is his position will probably not even exist in a few years, because even mid- and low-tech companies are migrating everything to Cloud. Which means he's basically staring at a slow-motion guillotine coming down on his career. 🪓 When it comes to those kind of roles, there's no time like the present to make the move to DevOps.
